WHAT IS SALVATION?
Dr. Audrey L. Dickey, Los Angeles, CA (c)
God so greatly loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life, John 3:16. So, because of what Jesus did on the cross a way was made for people (Jew and Gentile) to be reconciled back to Father God through Salvation. This brought forth the “Believer” the One New Man, Ephesians 2:14-16. “And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved,” Acts 4:12, the Amplified Bible.
In John 3:14-17 Jesus explains,
"And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted up [on the cross], in order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever! For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life. For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him."
When you receive Yeshua HaMashiach, (Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One) you are saved. "For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God," Eph. 2:8.
The word “saved” is the English word for the Greek word “Sozo” which was used to define the Hebrew word “Shalom.” “To be saved is defined as: to deliver or protect – heal, preserve, save, do well, be (make) whole,” (Strong’s Concordance).
A personal relationship with God is included. The Holy Spirit is with you and inside of you and will communicate with your spirit. You are also entitled to good health, preservation, protection, provision, prosperity, favor, peace, good relationships, purpose, safety, deliverance, authority in His name, spiritual gifts, strength, mercy, guidance, angelic help, increase and much more! In other words, wholeness (Shalom).
Furthermore, the English word “save” is used in the New Testament to define the Hebrew word “Shalom.” Another term used to describe “save” is born-again. Jesus said “unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God,” John 3:1-6; I Peter 1:3.
The name Yeshua (Jesus) means Savior or Salvation. Salvation makes you whole as you grow in Messiah, Matt. 1:21. Therefore, Yeshua restores "Shalom!" making you whole - nothing broken and nothing missing. He is the Pioneer of your salvation, Heb. 2:10.
Jesus is also referred to as the Prince of Peace (Sar Shalom) and “Peace comes to you because you are whole!” Hebrews 13:20-21 NKJV says, "Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen."
To be saved is to have Salvation (Yeshua). Everything you will ever need is found in salvation. The most important thing about receiving salvation is in Christ you become a new creation; salvation comes with the New Covenant and salvation includes eternal life, 2 Cor. 5:17; Jeremiah 31:31-33; Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 22:20, Romans 2:28-29; Galatians 2:16 and Galatians 3:7-14; 26-29; John 3:16, 36.
Salvation prevents anyone from perishing for their sin for eternity, in outer darkness. Instead of death they will receive eternal life, John 3:36. In addition, while still on earth the Believer receives "The Blessing" which encompasses all the blessings from the Lord in the Kingdom of God.
Because we accepted the Father’s sacrifice, Jesus/Yeshua, the Father adopted us into His Family (the Family of God, the One New Man, Eph. 2:14-16).
Romans 8:15 says,
"For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!"
The word adoption basically means a person is brought into the Family of God even though they were previously without any covenant with Him. Like all of us who are born-again (John 3:1-3) we were sinners and separated from God, but God in His mercy and grace redeemed us, purchased us and brought us into His presence. In His presence once again, this time through the blood of His only beloved Son, Jesus.
Once saved we are adopted by God, Who chose and received us as His own. What an honor, for Almighty God to choose us and then pour His love on each and every one of us. As Christian Believers in Christ Messiah, the Anointed One.
We are now eternally part of His family. His Spirit dwells in our spirit man and communes with us. Because of the adoption we become heirs of God and joint heirs with His Son, Jesus the Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach), Romans 8:17.
Christianity Stands Alone:
It stands apart from any other religion on the face of the earth. It is the only religion that has, "The True and Living God!" Furthermore, it is really not just a "religion" but a way of life. Christian means, "Christ-like." His followers are to have His attributes, faith, authority, power and so forth.
Our God is alive and His Words are alive and true! Not like other religion's gods who were made with men's hands, gods, who cannot see, cannot hear, cannot speak or answer any prayer including a prayer of healing. Deuteronomy 4:28 Amplified Bible says, "There you will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor eat nor smell." Verse 29 says, "But if from there you will seek (inquire for and require as necessity) the Lord your God, you will find Him if you [truly] seek Him with all your heart [and mind] and soul and life."
The Living God paid a great price for our redemption and to be a part of His family. All those who believe will be saved and share in eternal life! It is as simple as that.
So How Does One Receive Their Salvation?
Romans 10:9-10 NKJV says, “... that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
