The Beginning of the Last Days

Dr. Robert L. Dickey, Los Angeles, CA

The beginning of the Last-Days was officially instituted with the Apostle Peter announcing it in Acts 2:16-20: "But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.  And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.  I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.  The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.  And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’"  NKJV emphasis added.

THE LAST DAYS BEGAN ON PENTECOST

According to the scriptures given in Acts 2:3, 16, 17, the Apostle Peter announced that the “Last Days” had begun referring to the outpouring of Holy Spirit in the Upper Room on Pentecost (Shavuot) after Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.  He was referring to the fulfillment of the Joel 2:28-32 prophecy given above.

It has been approximately 2000 years since Peter made that pronouncement.  How could they be considered the “Last Days?”

The most preeminent answer would be the answers that Jesus gave in the Mount Olivet Discourse regarding the questions put to Him regarding the end of the age and of His coming by His disciples, Matthew 24:3.

The second most preeminent answer would be the Book of Revelation given to the Apostle John on the isle of Patmos at the end of the First Century.

Also preeminent is the Book of Daniel chapters 7 – 12.

There are many other passages in the First Covenant (Old Testament) that refer prophetically to the “Last Days” which had to be fulfilled and many that still have to be fulfilled.

Therefore, it has taken this considerable time to come this far in the fulfillment of scripture in reference to the “Last Days.”
