• Hebrew uses a different alphabet than English.  English has twenty-six characters, Hebrew has twenty-two basic characters with five alternate forms of five of the basic characters, which occur at the end of words.

• Hebrew is written right-to-left and is read right to left.  English is written and read from left to right.

• The Hebrew alphabet has no vowels, but pronunciation aids are often added.  English has five of its characters as vowels which can also be long and short sounds, etc.

• There are several styles of Hebrew writing.  There are three basic styles in modern Hebrew: book, block and cursive.  Biblical Hebrew is written in the book style.

• Hebrew letters have numerical values and meanings.  The use of Hebrew letters or characters in their numerical meanings is called gematria.
