THE FIND OF A RED HEIFER
April 9, 2015
A Passover Sign From God?
Dear robert,
As if the recent Passover celebration accompanied by a “blood moon” didn’t already have students of Bible prophecy in an excited and anticipatory frame of mind — we got word of another event with potential prophetic significance this week.
A fully “red” cow, which at this point appears to qualify as the Red Heifer in accordance with biblical regulations, has been attracting increasing attention on a small farm outside of Lakewood, New Jersey.
A red heifer is necessary to produce the ash needed for the rittual purification process — something that would be essential if Levitical sacrifices in Jerusalem were to ever be reinstituted.
Numbers 19:2-13 stipulates that the only way the Levitical priesthood can be purified after contact with the dead is to be sprinkled with water that is a mixture of hyssop, cedar-wood, scarlet, and the ashes of a red heifer — in Hebrew, a Parah Adumah.
For a red cow to be “kosher” it must be totally red. A mere two black or white hairs, in close proximity to each other, would disqualify it. Several rabbis have inspected this particular animal and thus far have all pronounced the animal kosher.
Intriguingly, the owner of the cow is the son of Holocaust survivors. Herbert Celler has lived in the Lakewood area since 1961 and attended the Betzalel Hebrew Day School.
In an article appearing in The Times of Israel titled “A Passover Sign from God?,” Israeli journalist and television host Simcha Jacobovici wrote:
Depending on where you stand on this issue, the arrival of [this Red Heifer] in Jerusalem could be bad news or good news. On the one hand — coming at a time of genocidal nuclear threats against Israel from Iran —the cow could be seen as a sign of Apocalyptic times. On the other hand, it could also be seen as a sign of the imminent arrival of the Messiah whose task it is to defeat the forces of evil and inaugurate an era of peace.
Here at Jewish Voice, we’re passionate about keeping you and others informed about developments that carry prophetic significance. We’re also called to equip you and others to live prudently and victoriously in these volatile Last Days.
