Genesis 49 Old Testament Prophecy Regarding the Last Days
Genesis 49:1
"And Jacob called his sons and said, 'Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days: gather together and hear, you sons of Jacob, and listen to Israel your father.'”
God gives revelation to Jacob regarding all twelve of the tribes of Israel and their characteristics in the “Last Days.” For the purpose of this study we focus on the tribe of Judah, because it is the kingly tribe from which the Savior comes and through Him we are adopted into Israel. Because we are adopted into Israel through Jesus Christ/Yeshua Hamashiach we receive inheritance of the promises of God to Israel.
Genesis 49:8-12 re the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Revelation 5:5, 9, 10; 16:18, 19
“Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; your hand shall be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s children shall bow down before you. Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; and as a lion, who shall rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the people. Binding his donkey to the choice vine. He washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes. His eyes are darker than wine and his teeth whiter than milk."
We know that King David who brought Israel to be the most powerful nation in the region, if not in the world came from the tribe of Judah. The rest of the tribes revered David and gave obeisance to him, bowed down to him. Jacob said that Judah was a lion’s whelp, that is, he was kingly as a lion is a kingly creature. Also, we know Jesus Christ (Yeshua Hamashiach) as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah giving the same type of kingly reference our King of Kings. Jacob prophesied that the sceptre would not depart out of his hand. We know this because Jesus Christ is a descendant of Kind David and He is King over an everlasting Kingdom which includes the “Last Days.” Also, because the Lord is King overall He has established the Laws of the Kingdom which are “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind;” and the second is like it; “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” Matthew 22:37-39. These laws encompass everything and every situation we will come up with forever. The reference to washing His garments in wine and His clothes in the blood of grapes are metaphors in reference to the Lord cleansing us from our sins through the blood of His cross.
Colossians 1:20 “and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. …yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight."
